Retargeting is the highest-ROI money in your account

In our active accounts, retargeting produces an average 92% conversion lift over cold prospecting. The reason is not magic - it is recency: a visitor who already showed intent is anywhere from 5 to 20 times more likely to convert. The problem is that most brands run retargeting as a single bored audience seeing the same creative forever.

Audience layering, not a blob

Split your retargeting pool by intent depth: 1-30 day site visitors, cart abandoners, checkout starters, past purchasers, and engaged social audiences. Each layer needs its own creative job - cart abandoners get urgency and guarantee messaging, past purchasers get cross-sells and VIP access, casual visitors get proof and education.

Exclusion rules matter as much as inclusion: convert 30-day purchasers out of prospecting, and convert buyers into a separate upsell pool so nobody gets chased after the sale.

Frequency: the thin line between effective and annoying

Beyond 4-6 impressions per user per week, performance decays and annoyance compounds. The fix is creative sequencing - rotating hooks, formats and proof types so the fifth impression feels new. When frequency is managed and creative rotates, retargeting stays a sales engine instead of becoming the reason people hide your ads.
